We miss you!

Tree in the night

We miss you Maya! All the people who knew you feel this way. The ones that didn’t get the chance to get to know you either didn’t deserve to or didn’t have the opportunity to do so; either way, there aren’t enough words in any language to describe you to others. I am just sorry that you didn’t have the opportunity to meet Andreea, you would of loved her as much as I do. This song is from her:

Hiroshima, the pictures they didn’t want us to see

February 9th, 2007 by My Lost Shadow

Hiroshima

I recently found a blog post that talks about the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, post containing some of the hard to find images of the results of the blast. I recommend reading the post but not the comments because it is clear that some people didn’t learn anything from that tragedy (almost every comment is about who’s fault it was for the bombing).

The Psychology of Cyberspace

February 7th, 2007 by My Lost Shadow

The Psychology of Cyberspace

For some time now I’ve been trying to read The Psychology of Cyberspace by John Suler but it seems that I can’t find the time needed. Anyway, from what I saw it is a good book worth reading.

This hypertext book explores the psychological aspects of environments created by computers and online networks. It presents an evolving conceptual framework for understanding how people react to and behave within cyberspace: what I call “the psychology of cyberspace” - or simply “cyberpsychology.”

John Suler, Ph.D.

On unrelated news, yesterday was the funeral of a school coleague. He died frozen during a storm in Fagaras Mountains while his friend was on her way back with help. He was a good person, national olympic at German, had all his life in front of him. Unfortunately faith wasn’t on his side that day. May you rest in peace!

The Chrysalids

February 3rd, 2007 by My Lost Shadow

“What do you think it is that makes a man”

I started on the Definition. He cut me of after five words.

“It is not!” he said. “A wax figure could have all that, and he’d still be a wax figure, wouldn’t he?”

“Well, then, what makes a man a man is something inside him.”

“A soul?” I suggested.

“No… souls are just counters for churches to collect, all the same value, like nails. No, what makes man man is mind; it’s not a thing, it’s a quality, and minds aren’t all the same value; they’re better or worse, and the better they are, the more they mean.”

~~~
“They stamp on any change: they close the way and keep the type fixed because they’ve got the arrogance to think themselves perfect. As they reckon it, they. and only they, are in the true image; very well, then it follows that if the image is true, they themselves must be God: and, being God, they reckon themselves entitled to decree, “thus far, and no farther.” That is their great sin: they try to strangle the life out of Life.”
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. It’s a must-read.
