Festival review

May 29th, 2006 by My Lost Shadow

Strange things happen. I couldn’t believe that the atmosphere of this years Tuborg Beer Festival is just like last years one. Great music, great people, great fun. Of course, it could be even better but still, this is great.

The beer is cheap even though not quite as good as the bottled version (I?m talking about Carlsberg and Guinness) but still, taking into consideration the fact that the price is low and that most of the beers I’ve drunk have been bought by others it quite doesn’t matter. On the other hand, the food is expensive and isn’t worth it, but there are a lot of stores near the festival so you can buy yourself anything you want.

A good thing is that these kinds of events help develop inter-human relations. I mean, the group is beginning to grow just like last year, so the summer looks kind of promising after the 4 person meetings last winter. Looking forward to the future.

A strange thing is that the security-forces respond in a brutal way. During a rock concert a pogo started and three-four steroid enhanced guys appeared out of nowhere and started hitting those who were in the middle of the pogo circle. Even a friend of mine got hit and I don?t think that this is normal taking into account that they weren’t threatening anyone else but themselves. All of this reminded me of Monsters of Rock in Moscow in 91 when the concert was almost stopped because of the military overreacting.

Tuborg Beer Festival

May 25th, 2006 by My Lost Shadow
The Tuborg Beer Festival has just started here in my home-town of Bucharest and it comes with lots and lots of memories.

The festival consists of concerts and a lot of cheap and good beer (Carlsberg, Guinness etc.) and it is very close to the place I study so after hours I can relax a while and listen to some good music (some good rock bands are going to sing in the festival).

It brings back memories because the group was united during last years festival. Until then the only persons who were friends of mine were Ispas and Skratch but that changed, Andreea, Codruta, Cora being added to the group because they were coming with us to the concerts. The atmosphere was great because we were all together and we forgot our worries and troubles and just had fun. Jokes, laughing and friendship, this is what Tuborg Beer Festival reminds me of. A lot of pleasant afternoons were spent there and it seemed that it lasted for a very long time despite the fact that it lasts for about 10 days only.

I look forward for tomorrow, the first day of the festival to see the prices and I hope that the fun will be the same if not better. The future looks good, despite my general negativist personality.

Networked friends

May 24th, 2006 by My Lost Shadow

I don’t get what’s so fun about networks like Hi5 and others like it. There’s a fashion out there that states that every cool person must have a profile on one of those networks (or even on all if he/she is really cool) and a lot of friends. It’s like social interaction is gone, and the only way to meet new persons is to join. I consider this to be kind of lame, because everything is mediated by technology, and you can’t be sure if that person is who she/he pretends to be. Despite this it seems that the phenomenon is getting bigger by the moment. This makes you wonder about things.

Recently, my psychology teacher told us to do a little experiment. Note down on a piece of paper five or more persons that influenced our life and with whom we wouldn’t give up our friendship. After writing them down, note the distance between you and them. Now, what we were shown is that most of them were relatively close to us, so this proves that distance is an important factor in choosing friends.

Technology only mediates but it also has a negative effect: it makes people more tech dependent and a little bit anti-social in the way that they won’t be able to behave normally in a face-to-face meeting.

Oh yes, I’m back and posting. You’ll have a new post every one or two days. Glad to be back.

I have recently started work on a short story so posting will be slower and will consist mainly in passages from the story. It will be in romanian but I will translate some of them into english so all can read them.
