Twenty six lovely months

I’ve finally made the switch to Ubuntu Linux, forever hopefully even though I still run a Windows VM Machine because I need some windows programs that don’t have a viable alternative on Linux. More on my thoughts on the new version of Ubuntu, 7.10, coming soon on ArenaIT.net and here (if I find time to translate them).

I leave you with a picture of my desktop (clean, shiny and transparent). CompizFusion works great. Cube for everyone!

WOW! This is the only way to describe last nights concert here in Bucharest. Muse was brilliant, the sound was great and the show was exceptional. The stage was well built and the light show was magnificent. The on-stage screens were a nice touch and the videos which accompanied the songs were perfect. All in all a perfect show (one of the best I’ve ever seen).

The not so nice part was the fact that despite the fact that we should of been allowed to enter the stadium at 6PM the actual entry was done at around 6:40 and believe me when I say that there was a crowd; this was compensated for by the price of the drinks (the watter was 2RON, the beer 4 or 5, I don’t know for sure) which wasn’t bloated seeing as you couldn’t bring anything from outside the concert.

I wrote a small review here about Suburbia a while ago ending with the conclusion that the place was not at all impressive. I promised myself and Andy to go and take another look at that club when we found time and preferably when there wasn’t a concert in the making.

Fate had it that yesterday I took a walk in Cismigiu with her and at one point decided to go to Basement Pub which happened to be closed; we moved on to Revenge near Lipscani (by the way, the way they renovated the area is brilliant, go and take a look if you haven’t seen it yet) and unfortunately the music was so bad that we decided to leave. In our way stood a mass of young people hanging in front of Suburbia… we decided to take a look.

All those people were standing outside because in the club there was a punk concert (Pistolul cu Capse and Chester) which required an entrance fee; despite the fact that it was quite cheap for 2 bands (which are quite good actually), only 10 RON, almost none of those people wanted to go in; we managed to thanks to the guy who sold the tickets and who let us in for free (I was actually going to pay the dude when he pushed me and Andy in).

The sound was great (at least at Pistolul cu Capse, because we didn’t get to see Chester) and the atmosphere was terrific. It was a little hot but an air conditioning machine was positioned strategically near us so we wouldn’t die of overheating. The band was great and the audience was making it all happen by singing, dancing, clapping their hands and the likes. I guess it was one of the most live concerts I’ve seen in a while.

All in all it seems that Suburbia isn’t such a bad place, at least when a good band is playing there live, the prices are good and the beer is cold. I still don’t know what kind of music and atmosphere there is when there isn’t a live concert going on but the chances of me finding out have risen after this beautiful event.

And to think that PcC were initially going to sing at another pub…

Later edit: the another pub was going to be Basement but for some unkown reason it was closed.

I got tickets to the Muse concert in Bucharest! So glad! Sorry about the bad quality of the picture but there was almost no battery in my camera so I had to turn off the image stabilizer and flash.
